Re: Crafting

Hi, just curious where this landed. Has the crafting system been designed and/or developed? If so, could someone speak a few words about it or point me in the right direction?

I'm specifically curious whether the output of crafting is static (e.g. you made a sword, a sword is worth 1 gold dragon) or variable (e.g. one PC makes a sword worth 1 dragon, 2 silver, and 7 copper, another PC that used better materials and/or was vastly more skilled made a sword worth 5 dragons, 1 silver, and 2 copper, and it gives +1 to hit and damage)....

Re: Crafting

Hi Mafro, the system unfortunately isn't built. A number of folks expressed an interest in developing it but it never got off the ground. But to answer your question, yes the goal would be to end up with varying quality items based on a variety of factors, including materials and skill.

Re: Crafting

If I may be so bold Crafting Natural Resources , CNR, is a great system for crafting everything from a loaf of bread or a pie to a suit of armor. The recipes are editable. It's a fairly realistic system I've used, edited, and upgraded. I would highly recommend checking this out.
Would love to see a hunting/fishing/foraging/cooking/eating system as well. I have all this almost ready to go IG as I was working on it with my own PW. i also did a hunger/thirst system that I tied into the things forageable/huntable/cratable. Very realistic if that's what you're aiming for...

Re: Crafting

That's definitely good to know. If you've integrated them into your areas already, then that's a running start right there. I don't think we'll ever get around to the sort of system we envisioned, so CNR it will be. smile

Re: Crafting

The above list is just what I needed for CNR AGoT stlye. Do you have the damages caused by those poisons? Vanilla nwn2 poison system leaves much to be desired.  It may be necessary to incorporate a new poison system like Umbras if there's to be decent variety. Thoughts?

Re: Crafting

I've seen a crafting system like this created in NWN1. I will explain:
So we've got this guy named George. We created this guy because we wanted to have a good rp time and didn't want to meddle in the combat side really (you've probably got a lvl 20 paladin laying around somewhere in your PC vault to get your fix). You begin character creation, and finish with a nice fleshed out character (whatever class-fighter? idk) and you enter the world. When you enter the world a one time 'onEnter' script is called to open up some various dialog boxes. One of these boxes is called...

"I'm a Tradesman, and so can you!"
It explains that through leveling up and gaining experience, you acquire a certain number of 'crafting points' and 'artisan points'.

-Crafting points are used like energy in one of those online browser games. This allows the player to gauge how much his character can do in a day without passing out or joining a union.-

-Artisan points are basically skill points that are only usable for your trade skills. These points are gained by leveling your character and making materials at your artisan station.-

What was fun about this was that the PCs could literally make furniture and other placeables to fill their houses. This created PC relationships with artisan and warrior as well (a warrior needs a bed to sleep on). These relationships were paid in either gold, or in bodyguard/caravan duties (getting your materials can be a dangerous business if you cross into Wildling territory for instance)

Dms offered artisan incentives as well, saying that NPC stores for a time where paying extra for a certain item. Dms could also put together quests for the srtisans like "a long expected Caravan" where the trader can choose to take his shop on the road and reap the successes or failures of this venture. This caravan would need guards, and maesters might need the protection to collect their ravens in far away towns as well, so a 'party based' action adventure could easily be spawned from this.

I like crafting systems, and I respectivly kind-of agree with Cypher (non-skill based gathering/refining/making) by offering this system as a possible alternative. cheers!
