Alpha Server On-line

The server is listed under PW Story.

Server Name: A Game of Thrones
Module Name: Pyke

The server currently contains initial Pyke areas, brought to you by Skeletor! It is still in development. You will naturally need to synchronize your PC with our server HAKs and PWC. Just run Worldgate (as explained on the downloads page) and sync up your files.

Feedback & comments welcome!

Re: Alpha Server On-line

I just took a big breath of fresh salt air. It's cool seeing Westeros taking form and being able to take a little walk around.

First impressions :

- Custom content is well used. I didn't know most of the placeables I have seen and they were put to good use.
- The kitchen you begin in is well done. It feels like a real place.
- It took me a few seconds of thinking before crossing the first bridge. Great feeling !!! (I have a little fear of height. Don't laugh, I heard an Ironborn King died on one of this bridge ... wink )
- The sea looks great but could be a little darker (and more blue).
- I imagine Pyke as a region of very bad and permanent weather. The sky could use more clouds. The sea and the sky should threaten to destroy the Iron Islands !
- There are some walkmeshes missing here and here (can't reach the bridge to the main land, can't explore some kind of prison up the halls).
- Didn't find the Kraken Throne sad Wanted to sit on it !
- I know it's a work in progress. The next things to add are the sounds. I grew up by the sea. There's alway the wind blowing. You can hear the sea from a far distance away, the waves rolling and crashing. And seagulls shouting too. The sounds will definitely make Pyke a real place.

If you haven't already seen it, here's a drawing of Pyke done by Ted Nasmith :

Sorry. You have to be registered to access this content.

I hate you Skel tongue Now that everybody has the chance to get a taste of Pyke, Cipher is going to whip me to get some quests done for the Iron Islands. cool

Worst of all, I have already begin to take notes for specific Ironborn quests !!!

And add in the sounds of rolling thunder and we have a winner! Great feedback. Can't wait to see a polished Pyke! smile

BTW, I've just placed an order for my Diwall Whip. It should be arriving in a matter of days. It's normally a +1 whip, but it's +6 wounding vs Frenchmen!! wink

Allot of this is comes with the Skullhak (collection of custom community stuff)
I was able to implement my stuff only recently.

- The kitchen you begin in is well done. It feels like a real place.

This is the only indoors place i have spent time on. My goal is to have an even higher level of details everywhere.

- The sea looks great but could be a little darker (and more blue).

Will do. I tried to stick to the book here: cold greenish water.

- I imagine Pyke as a region of very bad and permanent weather. The sky could use more clouds. The sea and the sky should threaten to destroy the Iron Islands !

What you see in the water is the max hight of waves (as far as i know). I tried using some effects like waterfall splash around the rocks, but it didn't look good at all. The sky is also a compromise. Because of the high altitude, combined with surrounding ocean, made it look like the world ends some hundred feet out in the ocean. I used the fog to hide the end of the map, since i can not do it by adding hills.

- There are some walkmeshes missing here and here

The bake (calculating walk meshes) was done by Cipher. I have a version on my cpu were everything works fine (issues with the toolset)

- Didn't find the Kraken Throne sad Wanted to sit on it !

Sorry. You have to be registered to access this content.

Next time Diwall,  next time!

There was supposed to be wind and wave sounds outdoors. At least they are there when i play test. I will have to look into that. Make sure you haven't muted anything tongue

Re: Alpha Server On-line

And now for a little feedback!

1. Interior tiles - The level of detail you have is spectacular! Bravo!

Is it possible to remove the mosaic from the tile? I *think* it would look a little better if the stone was plain throughout the halls and common rooms. The mosaics would be a nice touch in private or important chambers.

2. Music - While I like the maritime feel to the music in pyke_hall (the room with the pools), I think it's a bit too faced paced for the mood of that room (where I expect some ceremonial stuff to take place). I like the deeper, more ominous selection you used throughout the rest of the interiors of the keep. The faster paced maritime jingle might actually work really well for the exterior areas where there are lots of treacherous bridges and dizzying heights.

3. Can you add some shackles and/or torture equipment to the dungeons? big_smile

4. The door transition at the entrance to the building just below the dungeons (across the from the bridge to the kitchen tower) still links to the top of pyke hall. You're probably planning more areas here but in case you aren't....

5. A minor typo in the "kitchen" room. You have it spelled Citchen. Also, for display names, simply leave off any underscores or non-alpha characters. These will be the area names players see.

Other than that, it's fantastic. I'm a big fan of your work, Skel! You leave me wanting for more... big_smile

I agree in a way, but leaving the walls totally plane was too...... boring. I might hide more of it by covering more of the wooden parts with stone columns. I will work some more on the exteriors of the rest of the island now, to give Diwall some more to work with. But it's on the list.

The music was the best i found in the vanilla stuff "Wells of Lurue". But i'm not really happy with it, and wold like to add custom music that is even darker. For the ceremonial room, i missed the button, and added "Wells of Lurue Combat"smile Anyway, the sounds are not polished, and we will have to go through this before the release. (BTW do you know how to make the peaceable sounds play from random positions, i check the box, but still sounds loop in the same position.

Cipher wrote:

There are shackles in every cell (hanging from the roof) i tried to add water to the floor, so that the prisoners wold have to sit in knee deep water all the time, but for some reason, it doesn't show up ingame. .........As for torture equipment, have you been inside the Blood Tower?big_smile

Not planning more areas here. The door is meant to link to the storage cellar (u2). It does here, so it might be some old glitch in the save.

Je je potato, tomato, my written English isn't that good tongue . And as mentioned in the specialization  thread, the names are just made for building, and should be changed before release.

Thnx for good feedback!

No worries. I completely understand. smile

I don't recall this working reliably for me either but I haven't played with it/test it out recently to be honest. I'll look at it when I fiddle with sounds for Winterfell.

Damn that sounds good. Pity it didn't work! sad

Skeletor wrote:

Yeah I opened the door and it was a scene right out of Diablo! I hope that wasn't the future King of Westeros swinging from the rafters. smile

Yep, it's all good in the latest version. Thanks.

Ha! And here I thought English was a universal language. tongue I adjusted all the names/tags. I'll take care of these whenever you send over final versions of your builds.

Thanks for the awesome work, Skel. You set the bar really high! Now I've got to produce as good a quality with Winterfell... tongue
