Horses

Diwall, I downloaded your mod and launched it, but I'm not sure how you're supposed to ride the horse. Clicking on it doesn't do anything and there isn't a context menu option for it either. I'll dig into the scripts and see if I can figure it out but if you read this sometime today, feel free to point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Re: Horses

Taking a peek at the guts of the module, I'm guessing part of the problem is that my PC doesn't have the ride skill. Still, there doesn't appear to be anything to actually initiate the RIDE. What am I missing?

Re: Horses

I forgot to tell you one little thing : it works only with a human fighter !!!

It was only for test purpose so I didn't bother to do every 2das for every class.

Re: Horses

I made a small demo module to test custom active feat and the way it works in NWN2. Already done it in NWN1 but there is some difference between them.

I decided to create a feat which allow a character to "mount" a horse. In fact, when you use the feat on a horse, the script destroys the horse, polymorph your character into a horse and give you a speed bonus.

The goal is to have a simple way to travel by horse. It's not possible to have real "mounted feats" or to have fully animated characters on horses but I remember you said you can make a static character model on a horse ! Maybe one model for man and one for woman and we can have some quick horse travel and a ride skill.

Re: Horses

Fantastic...

If you are able to do script the morph, i'll make the model.I can also make models of other riders to place around in the areas. For this we might consider making a few different models for different sizes (small/large) if you can morph halflings to one model, and human to others!?!

Re: Horses

BTW, since we've obviously got the talent here, maybe a phenotype-based implementation a la Gilean's rideable horses released for NWN years back would be a better solution than static models, if it's possible in NWN2. That way, the PC would actually appear on the horse with all their gear.

Just a thought.

Re: Horses

Well, if anyone could code something like that, it wold absolutely be the best solution. However this requires new PC animations, witch is not possible as far as i know. The only solution i an think of, is editing some emote animation into a looping riding one.

However this will require a lot of scripting, and animating, and will probably not work at all.

Re: Horses

The scripting part is actually rather uncomplicated. The trick is in creating the phenotypes, which I believe is a mounted version of each PC. But that's just vague recollections of the implementation. I haven't looked at this in years. There were two versions, a creature based version and a phenotype based version. They are here if you're curious about them:

IIRC, this one had a better technical implementation (used creatures.2da) so you could hear horse hoofs as you moved around.

Anyway, it's all FYI. I don't remember enough of the details anymore but I do recall liking one more than the other.

Re: Horses

I thought I'd just point out for posterity that we'll have at most 4 playable races and mainly just human. Perhaps even only humans can ride (making that another benefit of the race) which would limit the amount of phenotype adjustments involved if we pursue this down the road.
