at some point in the book I believe it was said Jeybe's mother used Hrbs to make sure there would ne no issue even if she had conceved..Jeyne herself would have welcomed a child from the Marriage

Re: Who are Jon's parents? (spoilers)

They certainly had enough time together to make it happen. Did she not only use the moon tea (aka morning after pill) the first time? Before Rob married her? There are some pretty glaring problems with my theory, though so I don't think she is, it's a possibility. Consider this:

It would be interesting, now that the seat of Winterfel basically has no heir; Any child of Rob's, as the eldest son, would be the most logical choice to inherit the title. Since the only (known) surviving male child, Jon, is a) a man of the Night's Watch and b) a bastard, his inheriting the titles is nigh impossible. On top of that Bran and Rickon are believed to be dead, so that would be a hurdle to overcome if Rickon were to resurface... The only person who knows the truth about the boys is Theon, and well, he won't be telling anyone anytime soon. Sansa is believed to have been involved in regicide and her whereabouts unknown and Arya, having not been seen since the day Ned Stark was beheaded is presumed dead. I have a hard time believing, Martin, as callous a writer as he is, would allow the entire Stark line to be wiped out. So Westerling carrying Rob's child could be interesting, if unlikely. I think if this were true, then Martin would have made it clear by this point in the series.

I wonder if we will finally read about Rickon in the next novel. Rickon and Osha have been conspicuously absent from the story since, Bran/Jojen/Mara parted ways with them. As it stands, with everyone else dead, Rickon is the only Stark left with a shred of legitimate claim to his father's titles. And if the North is still willing to fight, possibly the current King in The North. Unless, of course, Westerling is pregnant with Rob's son.

if not Rickon or Rob's son do not survive to the end to take up their father's mantle, then I imagine Martin will allow for a marriage between Sansa and Harrold Hardyng, a possible heir to the Vale's throne (and by extension, via Sansa, the Lordship of Winterfel as well) once Littlefinger does away with little Robert Arryn. I suspect Petyr is slowly killing off the kid with milk of the poppy to ensure this plan can proceed.

I think Rickon is going to be a non-factor.

First, he's still much too young and least likely to possess Stark "values".

Second, barely anything has been written about him in the first 5 books. With only 2 to go, practically speaking, it doesn't sound plausible. He's just not a piece in *this* Game of Thrones.

And last but not least, Jon finally decided to claim Winterfell at the end of Dance with Dragons. He's the eldest Stark with the most leadership experience and the requisite Stark values. If he survives and events don't conspire against him as they have Robb, Catelyn, and Ned, then I think it's done. I don't see Bran, Rickon, Sansa, or Arya challenging his claim and he has Stannis' support.

Technically, Bran may have the strongest claim. He's old enough to at least be a consideration and has governed in Robb's absence for a time. But does he want it? There has been no indication of that as yet and what he's discovering about his supernatural abilities may make him less suitable for such a position.

I was hoping a lot Theon stayed as prince of winterfell while I read the first book and married Sansa or something... Now I really don't care, Winterfell is sort of a ruin. It would be nice that the Bolton's kept it, crushing every readers hopes and dreams, but Ramsay is a character made to die, clearly. Maybe a new Frey house, anyone? Frey's of Winterfell, that would be the ultimate trolling to all readers lol

lol. That would be soul crushingly bad. I think there would be Game of Thrones book burnings if that happened. With winter coming though, maybe the North gets devastated by the Others and they have to rebuild it all/start over. Sort of like a big "reset" event.

But seriously, I believe it will be Bran, and maybe he will keep the North and Riverlands realm. Maybe Martin will leave an open ending to it, still in conflict but with some main characters in the game of thrones dead, like Varys and Littlefinger, Doran and Euron, something like that?

Anything is possible but the title of the series may be the ultimate clue. If we are right about Jon, he's the man of destiny.

On another note, I heard now that Martin may be writing 8 books instead of 7. That could be bad IMO. The longer he takes to finish the series, the more likely it is that it will end up unfinished given his age.

Re: Who are Jon's parents? (spoilers)

I agree about his age but unfortunately IMO he can't finish up all of the different story lines satisfactorily without adding at least one more book sad  And as to Jon theories let me toss in other Thoughts.. Purple Eyes and white blonde hair of Targaryens also runs in The Dayne Family..so again Ashara and Eddard..or Rhaegar Lyanna..or and do not know if possible..but Targaryen Blood in Roberts family so also Robert and Lyanna's bastard would have caused a shitstorm if at the end of one war he had to fight another to legitamise a bastard...just saying Martin twists plots well enough for any of these. Basically the only way i see Jon not haveing Blood of the North and of The DXragon in him is if Wylla was his mother

I wonder if we will ever know what happened to Benjen.
