Game of Thrones Questions

Hey all. I just joined the forum yesterday and have a couple questions. I've seen that there is a NWN2 Game of Thrones expansion so there is obviously a video game in that. But I've also seen references to non-video game "GMs" and a Play by Post system. So is there both on this site? Is the Play by Post run off of the RPG sourcebooks? I just ordered the sourcebook, narrator's kit, campaign guide, and chronicle starter so I can GM for friends. Anyone have any feedback/criticisms on that system and the NWN2 expansion game?

Thanks.

Re: Game of Thrones Questions

Hi Neam, we have both here: an online NWN2 Game of Thrones persistent world that's in development and a Play by Post system. We are trying to base it off the GoT d20 sourcebooks by Guardians of Order insofar as possible. If you're interested in DMing the PbP group, let me know. It's good preparation for the online game and if we play it right, we can transfer what happens in the forums to the game world.

Re: Game of Thrones Questions

Hi Cipher. Regarding the persistent world: Oh, I thought it was already up and running since lots of the forum posts are multiple years old. Are you just implementing changes? Regarding the PbP game: Umm.. Hm.. Even though I have roughly 15-16 years RPing experience (god that makes me feel old) this will be my first time GMing/DMing. Currently I only have one interested player which is fine for my first time. What type of things would I be in charge of if I were to DM the PbP? Would I be doing my own campaign or co-DMing with others?

I ordered the sourcebook which has the Peril at King's Landing campaign, the narrator's kit (which has a campaign), the chronicle starter (which has another campaign), and the campaign guide (mostly a reference book). I'll probably start my player off with one of the pre-packaged campaigns but I'm working hard on my own from-scratch campaign as well. It's pretty enormous in scope (because the realm of Westeros always has a thousand moving parts at one time) so maybe I can present you guys with my plans for that and you can adopt pieces you like.

Little background on my RP experience: For the last 4-5 years I've been playing the Amber diceless RPG system in the world of Roger Zelazny; I've done a couple short campaigns in World of Darkness (Changling/Werewolf/Vampire/etc); before Amber my best friend would create his own dice-based games (sometimes with my help in creating game rules and mechanics) and we did that from roughly 2001 to 2006. Back when I was in junior high I had some experience in Legend of the Five Rings and some sci-fi game I don't remember the name of that involved mechs. I'm sort of non-stereo-typical because I've never done a full game of D&D (just a couple hours total worth). I've done a handful of campaigns in the Warhammer Fantasy RPG system. I also played a text-based game called Dragon Realms by Sumitronics for about 5 years that was a heavy RP game (They also created Gemstone and some other games).

Re: Game of Thrones Questions

My Song of Ice and Fire experience includes: Watching the HBO series' season 1 three times, watching season 2 twice, reading the book series through once (about to re-read them all again), playing the Xbox/PS3 GoT game, and in between all of that absorbing as much knowledge about the world as possible.

I have to say the knowledge database you have on this site incredibly impressive! My plan for re-reading the series was to compile my own database for things like character/location descriptions, etc but this site takes care of most of that! You know a sight is awesome when it lists the known Valyrian Steel weapons in the world! smile

Thanks! GRRM's world is so big, there's still so much to fill in. So feel free to add to it if you think there's anything worth adding.

Although all material related to GRRM's world is useful..I think the primary sourcebook we are using to develop the PW from is the Guardians of Order rulebook...not so much the Green ronin one!

Nope..this is a fan developed persistent world for Neverwinter Nights 2...and it's expansions..encompassing adventures, intrigue and all the other ingredients of George R.R.Martin's Westeros...as featured in the Book series.."A Song of Ice and Fire" On which the HBO TV series Game of Thrones is based!

Re: Game of Thrones Questions

The HBO series is a film adaptation of the Game of Thrones books in the form of a mini-series where each book is a season of the show. HBO is trying to follow the story in the books as closely as possible (even going so far as to involve GRRM in reviewing their scripts), but it's not entirely identical. Some differences exist, notably where things don't translate well from book to screenplay, but the overall storyline is a faithful adaptation of the books.
